Due to the wide application range of aluminum trichloride, in order to meet the needs of various users, the manufacturing process conditions of the manufacturing plant are different. Therefore, the following requirements are imposed on the production of aluminum trichloride: particle size, color impurities, solubility and active.
(1) Size between the particles: According to the manufacturer, it is indicated that aluminum trichloride is required to be stirred and dissolved in the presence of liquid phase, and aluminum trichloride is required to have a certain particle size, and the particle size is not more than 5 mm. If it is too large, it will be insoluble. If it is in the form of powder, it is easy to produce dust during the production process, and the operating environment is poor. Aluminum trichloride is also easy to float on the surface of the material. However, some manufacturers, such as dye production, have granular problems and are not strictly required. Some users also need to use powder.
(2) Color and impurity problems: anhydrous aluminum trichloride can be white, yellow or grayish, and can be produced by adjusting production conditions as needed. Generally, if the content of impurities and free chlorine is high, it is yellow. According to the refined use of Vaseline in medicine, it is necessary to have a product containing a high level of free chlorine, and the quality of Vaseline is particularly good. According to the Ministry’s standard, the first-class refined product of impurity iron content shall not be higher than 0.5%, the second-class product shall not be higher than 1%, the first-grade refined product of insoluble matter in water shall not be higher than 0.10%; the second-class product shall not be higher than 0.15%. If the impurity content is too high (including oxygen, etc.), the activity is low.
(3) Solubility and activity problems: As the activity requirement, it is the main indicator. For ethylbenzene production, it is more demanding due to temperature limitation. Generally, aluminum trichloride produced by metal aluminum chloride method should control the specific production process conditions, so that its molecular form is different. The product has low impurity content, good particle activity, and can guarantee high quality of use.
